Introduction
Earthquake Alerts does not require an account and does not collect your name, email, or precise location on our servers. This policy explains the limited data the app does handle and why.
Earthquake Alerts (the "App") is operated by AppTune LLC ("we", "us"). This policy covers the iOS and Android apps and the website at earthquakealerts.app.
Information we collect
The App handles the data below. Apart from normal network requests, only your alert subscription and a push token leave your device. The services that receive them are listed under Service providers.
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Device location (only if you grant permission, and it never leaves your device) | Centers the map, shows your position, and picks your alert area |
| Alert subscription: a coarse grid cell of roughly 20–40 km (derived from your location or a place you pick), magnitude tiers, and language | Delivers alerts for quakes near that area, in your language |
| Push token (a random identifier for this app install) | Routes notifications to your device |
| Network data: IP address, device and app type, requested map area | Serves earthquake data, maps, and fonts |
How we use information
We use this data only to run the App. We do not sell it, share it for advertising, or build profiles.
- Send earthquake alerts for the area and magnitudes you are subscribed to.
- Show earthquakes on the map and estimate their distance from you, computed on your device.
- Localize content into your language.
- Keep the service working and secure, for example by handling network requests and preventing abuse.
Service providers
Firebase Cloud Messaging processes data on our behalf to deliver notifications. Google Fonts serves the App's fonts under Google's own terms.
| Provider | What it receives | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase Cloud Messaging | Push token, alert topics (area cell, magnitude tier, language), notification delivery data | Firebase privacy |
| Google Fonts | IP address and font requests when the App downloads its fonts | Google privacy policy |
Data retention and deletion
Uninstalling the App deletes everything it stored on your device. Because we keep no account or user records, there is nothing on our servers to delete. Push tokens and alert subscriptions held by Firebase expire after the App is uninstalled or stays inactive, under Firebase's retention rules.
Your rights and choices
You control what the App can access through your device settings, and you can turn off location or notifications at any time.
- Location: deny or revoke location permission and pick a place by hand instead.
- Notifications: turn alerts off in your device's notification settings.
- Stop all processing: uninstall the App.
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA/CPRA (California), or PIPA (South Korea) may give you rights to access, correct, delete, or object to processing of your personal data. Our legal basis for processing under the GDPR is our legitimate interest in providing the service you requested and, for location and notifications, your consent through the permission prompts. To make a request, contact us at the address below, and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children's privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
All network traffic between the App and our services is encrypted with HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we keep the data we handle to a minimum.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date. Material changes will also be announced in the App.
